TREGRE - MILTENBURGER - BURKE

Walker  LA
Email

Seeking information on the Star Plantation. It was located in St. John the Baptist Parish. Louis TREGRE was the original owner. This plantation was near the San Francisco Plantation. The Star Plantation was unlawfully seized near the end of the Civil War. Apparently Louis Tregre's Factor A. MILTENBURGER was involved in seizure. A suit was filed by Louis' daughter Ms. Thomas BURKE as her father owed her for some notes she held against the plantation. During the suit A. MILTENBURGER counter sued stating he was the owner of the Star Plantation that he had purchased at sheriff sale in June 1865, which was ordered by the U S Provisal Court. This case went on the the Louisiana State Supreme Court then the U S Supreme Court. [posted online 2/24/2012]

I am looking for information on the KISSLING family from the New Orleans area. I am not sure where exactly they are from, but thought I would check to see if anyone here would have some information on them. I checked the Louisiana State Birth Records to find my Great-Great Grandmother Elizabeth "Eliza" KISSLING (b. 8/1854) in New Orleans. Her father was Frederick KISSLING (c. 1836 - 1867) and her mother was Auguste GRAVEN (also spelled GRAFEN and GREVIN). My Great-Great Grandfather (Ludwig "Louis" SCHAEFER) married Eliza after the Civil War and the family moved back to Minnesota (where Ludwig had previously established himself) after an outbreak of Yellow Fever (i believe that's what it was). Looking for any information on and the line of an Ernest HAYDEL who married a Justine LAURENT (in Edgard), and had a son, Stanley P. Haydel (...other children???). Were Ernest's parents Marcian Belford Haydel and Marguerite Adele HAYDEL or Victorin HAYDEL and Celeste Caroline SCHEXNAYDER? Very confusing to me. Both these sets of parents apparently had a son named Ernest, same age, same town/parish/and both Ernest's served in the Civil War. I'd like to know the decendants of both Marcian Belford and Victorin. ...And, just where Ernest and Justine fit in. [11/14/2011]
